William Glenn Atchley, known affectionately as Glenn, was born on July 24, 1946, in Gaston County, North Carolina. He passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026, at the Robin Johnson Hospice House, surrounded by his family and friends. Glenn’s life was characterized by his unwavering dedication to his family and his community, and he leaves behind a legacy of love and service that will be fondly remembered.

Glenn had a notable career as an engineer, ultimately rising to the position of Vice-President at Gibson Machine Shop, where he devoted over 50 years of his professional life. His commitment to his work was matched only by his eagerness to help others, ensuring that those around him could succeed and prosper. Glenn proudly served in the U.S. Army and held the esteemed position of Honor Guard with the Gaston County Honor Guard, reflecting his dedication to service both in and out of uniform. Glenn was a master gardener, enjoyed fishing and working in his shop with wood woks, building things and giving them away. He was a member of Legacy Church for most of his life and later attended Victory Hill Baptist Church following the passing of his beloved wife, Norma.

A man of many admirable traits, Glenn was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a cherished friend to many. His greatest pride was undoubtedly his family, who were the center of his world. Glenn is survived by his loving daughters, Apryl Smith (Thomas) and Melissa White (Jason); his wonderful grandchildren, Allyson Smith, Caroline Smith, and Zetta White; and his sisters, Carol Robinson, Wanda Willis (Jim), and Hilda McCraw (Weldon). He also leaves behind his lifelong friends, Mike and Donna Nichols, whose companionship enriched his life.

Glenn is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Norma Cobb Atchley, whose memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew them as a couple. He was also preceded by his parents, Raleigh and Maude Hardin Atchley, who laid the foundation for the caring and supportive family man he became.
