William "Bud" Virgil Sorrells, born on January 30, 1934, in Rutherford County, NC, transitioned peacefully from this world at his residence, surrounded by family, on October 17, 2025. Bud was known for his warm spirit and dedication to those he loved, embodying the values of hard work and commitment throughout his life.
A highly esteemed member of the community, Bud worked in insurance sales for most of his professional career, where he built lasting relationships with clients and colleagues alike. His career was only a part of who he was; he was also a proud veteran who served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. This period in his life exemplified his strong sense of duty and patriotism.
Bud’s life was enriched by his passions, particularly his love for gardening and playing the guitar. These hobbies not only brought him joy but also allowed him to share his passion for nature and music with those around him. He found solace and satisfaction in tending to his garden, nurturing it as lovingly as he did his family.
Throughout his life, Bud was an active member of the Dallas Methodist Church, which served as a spiritual home and community hub for him and those he cherished. His faith guided him, and he cherished the friendships formed within the church community.
Bud's family legacy is a testament to his character and love. He is survived by his son, Lyn Sorrells (Cheryl); stepchildren, Pam Patterson, Rick Patterson (Joyce), and Mike Patterson (Lynn); brother, Raymond Sorrells (Shirley); step-grandchildren, Amber Hampton (Ashley), Paige Denton (Steven), Nate Patterson (Magaly), and Eli Patterson; along with step-great-grandchildren, Jake Denton, Christian Denton, and Kadence Hampton.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Peggy Burton Sorrells; his first wife, Sara Long Sorrells; sisters, Marjorie Clayton and Gloria Wells; and step-grandson, Houston Patterson.
Bud's proudest accomplishment was the time shared with his wife, creating a life filled with love and cherished memories. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
A visitation to celebrate Bud’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM at the Dallas Methodist Church, located at 301 W Main St, Dallas, NC 28034 with Pastor Billy Ervin officiating. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery with Military Honors by the U.S. Navy and the Gaston County Honor Guard.. All who knew Bud are invited to join in honoring his memory and the wonderful life he lived.
